On Saturday, June 2, 2018, the Artesian City Car Club and the Corvette Club of Albany cruised to Americus, Georgia to visit the Habitat for Humanity Global Village and Discovery Center.

All who attended learned about Habitat’s vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live, and how Habitat achieves these goals throughout the world.

Habitat for Humanity was established in 1976 in Americus, Georgia. In the past 42 years, Habitat has built over 800,000 homes all over the globe, and helped four million people worldwide.

There is a desperate need for affordable, decent housing all over the world, especially in developing nations.

The Global Village demonstrates poverty housing found throughout the world, as well as examples of the various types of housing
that Habitat helps build.

Habitat affiliates partner with people in local communities in over 70 countries throughout the world, to help them build or improve a place they can call home.

Through the support of companies, local organizations, and individual volunteers, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and for their families.

Each Habitat affiliate is self-sustaining, relying on the support of their local communities to provide the resources for building and rehabilitation programs. Contributions to local affiliates stay in communities and help improve the lives of neighbors.

Many affiliates also operate Re-Stores that sell surplus building supplies and gently-used home furnishings to help finance community projects.

Habitat homeowners are home buyers. Each homeowner must complete a rigorous application process to ensure that they have acceptable credit, no bankruptcies, the ability to pay a mortgage, and willingness to continue reside in their communities.

Homeowners also required to contribute a number of “sweat equity” hours to their home by participating in the building/rehabilitation of their residence.

The Artesian City Car Club is proud to support Flint River Habitat for Humanity during our 45th Anniversary Car Show on Saturday, October 13, 2018
